A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

So.... is my GR card revoked now? Cause I was kinda bored through this whole thing.
I like the world building, but isn’t it terrible that my favorite character is Kell’s coat? And it’s not even like semi sentient like Doctor Strange’s cape.
Sigh.

Listen. It’s not that I didn’t like it.

It’s “A Knight’s Tale” mashed with “Avatar” - think more Legend of Korra and less The Last Air Bender...
Which is why I love the concept so much and when the story just wasn’t there (for me) I can’t help but feeling disappointed.

I’m also having a really hard time connecting with the characters - Rhy and Lila are too reckless (and not in the fun way, where they’re smart and charming about it, ya know?). Alucard peaked my interest, but I didn’t get enough of him to truly create a connection.

I sympathized with Kell a lot and got really angry for him, but that was the biggest emotion this book evoked and that’s not enough.

Diving into Book 3 cause I hate giving up on a series without seeing it through the end but I’m :’( that I couldn’t enjoy this as much as other people.
